Jack Fertig has spent 42 years in the fields of education and athletics.
Biography
A New Jersey native, Jack taught math and coached football and basketball at his alma mater, Highland Park (NJ) High School. He then became a graduate assistant at the University of Vermont, Washington State University (where he earned his master's degree) and the University of Oregon. Next were full-time assistant coaching positions at Robert Morris College, Western Carolina University and the University of Tennessee before becoming associate head coach at the University of Toledo and the University of Southern California. His final college coaching job was as the Director of Basketball Operations at Fresno State before finally returning full circle to the high school level where he served as head basketball coach and math teacher at Buchanan High School.
Jack has coached and/or recruited 26 players who played in the NBA.
He also was the host of the "Jerry Tarkanian Show" on Fox Sports radio in Fresno, worked at the Michael Jordan Flight School at the University of California, Santa Barbara and is a former member of the prestigious National Speakers Association.
A true student of life and observer of people, Jack wrote Life's A Joke, a book about the hilarious episodes of what happens on the road in college basketball and of life in general. He recently completed the sequel, Life's STILL A Joke.
