Jack's Life

Jack Fertig, aka “Mr. Quote” has spent the past four decades in the fields of education and athletics, at both the high school and intercollegiate levels.

A New Jersey native, Jack taught math and coached football and basketball at his alma mater, Highland Park (NJ) High School, after college. He was a graduate assistant in basketball at the University of Vermont, Washington State University (where he earned his master's degree) and the University of Oregon. He then became a full-time assistant coach at Robert Morris (PA) College, Western Carolina University and the University of Tennessee before becoming associate head coach at the University of Toledo and USC. He then was appointed the Director of Basketball Operations for the men’s and women’s programs at Fresno State before finally coming back full circle to the high school level where he served as head basketball coach (2002-05) and math teacher at Buchanan (Clovis, CA) High School until his retirement in 2012.

Jack has coached 27 players who have played or are playing in the NBA and four of his former bosses won coach-of-the-year honors while Jack was in their employ. In addition, the last two head coaches Jack worked for are being inducted into the National Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA in September of 2013 (Jerry Tarkanian in the “Coach” category and George Raveling in the “Special Contributor” section.

He was the host of the "Jerry Tarkanian Show" on ESPN radio in Fresno for eight years, is the current host of “JackandCoach” segment (click on the video link of CoachGeorgeRaveling.com) and continues to work at the Michael Jordan Flight School in Santa Barbara.

A true student of life and observer of people, Jack wrote Life's A Joke, a book about the hilarious episodes of what happens on the road in college basketball and of life in general.

A former member of the prestigious National Speakers Association, he's spoken all over the country and has a unique way of making sure you'll remember his many inspiring, educational and entertaining messages.
